Are we killing our children?

Are we killing our children?

Did you know that the average life expectancy for your children is approximately 10 years shorter than your own? Here, in this passionately delivered TED talk, Jamie Oliver shares his perspective on what’s happening right here, right now all over the Western world – parents, schools, society – we are feeding children with food that ultimately will damage their bodies and affect their health. And it’s happening all over.

Two years ago, my cousin died – her body just couldn’t take any more. They had to get special equipment in to lift her body out of her home into the hearse to take her to the funeral home. When she was buried, she took up two plots rather than one. She was 42.

Why do we think the homicide and violence rates are the most frightening thing about today’s culture? It’s happening right under our noses in our own homes, workplaces, schools – in the kitchen… so listen up to Jamie’s message and change the way we feed and educate those in our care.

Jamie Oliver is on a mission to educate people, especially children, to learn to cook for themselves, so that they’ll always be able to feed themselves and their children fresh nutritious food…

Jamie Oliver’s Wish

“I wish for your help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”

The Plan

Set up an organization to create a popular movement that will inspire people to change the way they eat. The movement will do this by establishing a network of community kitchens; launching a travelling food theater that will teach kids practical food and cooking skills in an entertaining way and provide basic training for parents and professionals; and bringing millions of people together through an online community to drive the fight against obesity. The grassroots movement must also challenge corporate America to support meaningful programs that will change the culture of junk food.

Go Jamie go!!

...we have a lot of choice in how and where we spend each of our 24 hours in our day. (Yes, those same 24 hours that everyone else has!) And of course, those choices we make have a huge impact on our thoughts, our feelings and our actions, which in turn have a huge impact on our careers and on our businesses. Read more...
