Crimson Sadhana

Crimson Sadhana by Gurunam Singh (review for Spirit Voyage.com)

This latest album from Gurunam Singh places him firmly in my favorites in my itunes library. Its soft lilting pace and gentle, rolling rhythms carry you along, so you almost can’t help joining in and singing along with these wonderful mantras. The opening track, Wah Yantee (Universal Consciousness), is a perfect example and I caught myself singing it (out loud) while waiting for a train yesterday. Hmmm…

The thing that I love most about this album is the way Gurunam really leads you through it – he has such a clear, strong and reassuring voice which resonates right through. It’s a gentle and calm lead though – in this version of Mool Mantra (Prosperity) it’s as if he’s distilled the kriya down to its essence, offering us exactly what he knows we need.

Complimenting Gurunam’s rich lead, other singers’ voices are used almost like instruments themselves. Their melodic echoes enhance the sense of a shared experience – a reminder that part of the joy in singing these mantras is in the knowing that countless other people have and are singing them too. This album makes it hard not to smile on the inside.

Highlights of Crimson Sadhana for me include Rakhe Rakhanhar (Protection) with its delicate harmonies on traditional instruments and Guru Ram Das (Healing) in which Gurunam’s wonderfully strong male voice is complimented perfectly by Simrit Kaur‘s simply beautiful melodies. And the best part is that the more you listen, the more you’ll want to play these tracks again and again…

Crimson Sadhana is available on CD or as an MP3 on Spirit Voyage‘s website.
